The owner of Quilter’s Way, Jane Barnett, shares her story with many high tech female executives – life in the industry was more draining than sustaining. After more than 20 years as a computer professional, she finally determined to make a career change and bring some creativity back into her life. Familiar with sewing since childhood; Jane believed that quilting would provide a lifetime of learning in a field that seems determined to keep re-inventing itself. She dreamed of creating a supportive community where creativity could be nurtured and taking chances would be cheered and rewarded. As luck would have it, well before any firm business plan was in place, she was driving through a favorite local village and spotted a “For Rent” sign. Jane looked through the large windows to glimpse the empty wreck of a storefront in a perfect location – an artsy but family-oriented neighborhood. That was all it took – all the planning and dreaming coalesced on the sidewalk of West Concord – within 6 months (and lots of hard work by family and friends) the shop opened in June 2002. The shop strives to be a constant source of inspiration and to provide a fresh outlook on sewing and quilting for today’s busy life style.

Quilter’s Way occupies the first floor of a storefront that has changed little in over 100 years. The shop is situated in the artisan village of West Concord, an area widely known as home to one of the last surviving 5 & 10¢ Stores, as well as independently owned boutiques and informal, eclectic cafes. The center of thriving family neighborhoods, West Concord is located just a few miles from historic downtown Concord, the Old North Bridge and Walden Pond. The shop is minutes away from the homes of Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and Louisa May Alcott. If Paul Revere’s ride, woods and pastures don’t appeal, downtown Boston caters to more cosmopolitan interests and can be reached in only 30 minutes travel time by car or train (just across the street).

Quilter's Way specializes in all things quilting: the revolutionary Kit Designer, quilt classes and workshops, quilt patterns, pre-cut fabric bundles and jelly rolls, notions, and over 3,000 bolts of high-quality cotton batiks and modern fabrics from top contemporary designers. We offer only products that we would use ourselves, which are now also available in our online store at QuiltersWay.com.
