12-Month Program of Hand-Applique Starts June 2012
Ildi Tary has created a gorgeous quilt sampler from blocks created by Dinah Jefferies of Garden City Gateworks. This program combines a traditional Block-of-the-Month program with supporting classes that will help you to sharpen your hand-applique skills. This 12-block, 12-month program starts on June 2 and meets monthly on the first Saturday of each month from 10am to 1pm (or other times and dates as arranged). We are showing 9 blocks so that you can see the colors and style of the applique but you will finish the program with 12 blocks.
Each month Ildi will teach students various techniques in a progressive manner. You will primarily learn to use "needle-turn with freezer paper on top" applique techniques. You are expected to have basic hand applique skills.

During the year, you'll learn more advanced skills such as:
- How to create an overlay for positioning
- How to make perfect circles, even the tiniest ones
- At least three ways to make stems, evn the super skinny ones
- How to work an applique piece in your hand before sewing it down
- Reverse applique
- How to work your piece progressively even when there are pieces over some and under others
- How to customize an applique pattern to make it your own
- How to do a papercut applique, or the cut-away method
- Some three-dimensioinal applique techniques
How does it work?
When you register for this block-of-the-month program, you'll pay a $20 registration fee. We'll then contact you by phone to obtain further payment information. Starting June 2nd, each month we'll automatically bill your credit card (price to be determined - estimated at $45). Block-of-the-month registrations are a 12-month commitment and cannot be canceled.
Your monthly kit will be available for pick-up during your class on the 1st Saturday of each month. If getting to the shop is difficult or classes are not your thing, we are happy to ship monthly kits to you. Call the shop to set that up.
