What's a Saturday Sampler Program?
- Our “Saturday Sampler” program is
our most popular monthly event, meeting on the 2nd Saturday of each month. This year it begins again on June 9th.
- Our Saturday Sampler quilt features what we call “basic” blocks and auxilliary blocks called “challenge” blocks.
- Choose to make just the basic block and at the end of 12 months you'll have completed 12 blocks that offer you a chance to polish basic quilting techniques. Basic blocks are designed with the beginning or time-challenged quilter in mind.
- Add one or more extra blocks to your monthly allotment if you want to challenge yourself with more practice opportunities or slightly more difficult piecing techniques.
- Those participants who opt to make a set of basic blocks and the matching challenge blocks will receive a complete quilt layout -- no worrying about choosing a setting for your blocks.
- We offer both types of block (basic and challenge) in three themed colorways. We unveil the blocks each month in a 15-minute lesson filled with special
tips and techniques. We provide detailed written
cutting and piecing instructions as well.
- You will receive one “basic”
block kit each month for free if you adhere to the program rules. You
can purchase additional block kits for $6 per kit.
Music Moves -- 2012 Saturday Sampler Series
On June 9, 2012, we’ll embark on a journey that crosses generations and listening devices. From the record player to the walkman to the iPod, we continue to be moved by music. Each month for one year, you’ll have the opportunity to stop and really listen to your favorite music genre by creating 12-inch blocks or coordinating smaller components in fabrics that evoke the musical style through our choice of color, texture and pattern.
What music moves you?
Jazz
Chose Jazz as your genre if you want to sit back and be inspired by the syncopation and improvisation of great Jazz artists like Billie Holiday, John Coltrane, and Miles Davis. Selections from our stunning black and white collection will be the focal points for our Jazz blocks. This smooth, high-contrast option will transport you to an intimate, smoke-filled jazz club.
Rock 'N Roll
Think back to good ole’ classics of rock ‘n roll—The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Aerosmith—and colors of the rainbow crowd your mind. Choose this genre if you want to work with bright fabrics from our hand-dyed batik collection that will pull you back to days of tie-dye abandon. This bright, in-your-face combination of fabrics will conjure concerts of your youth--you may even want to wave your lighter.
Bubblegum Pop
That unapologetically sweet, upbeat music that you just can’t help humming? That would be Bubblegum Pop. Don't be embarrassed to choose this genre. You'll work with fabric choices that are upbeat and playful as well, filled with polka dots and light, bright colors. This fun, charming option will be sure to get you both smiling and on your feet and dancing.
How to Register for Music Moves
Choose the music genre(s) that you want to work with for the 12-month program. When you add this product to your cart, we'll register you for the 9am session and create monthly kits for you based on your selections below. Your $25 registraton fee covers the ruler you'll use all year and your first month's block kit.
